Garage Door Openers

Garage door openers typically last 10 to 15 years, so the one you bought before a smartphone lived in your pocket may be running on borrowed time. At Welcome Home Garage Doors, we install and set up garage door openers from LiftMaster and Genie across Cincinnati, OH, including belt-drive, chain-drive, wall-mount, camera-equipped, and battery-backup models. Every opener we install includes 2 remotes and 1 keypad, and our 5-star Google rating comes from homeowners who noticed how quiet the new one runs.

faq

frequently asked
questions.

Openers have come a long way since the single-button days, and so have the questions. These are the answers homeowners want most when weighing a new motor, smart features, or backup power.

  • How long do garage door openers last?

Most garage door openers last 10 to 15 years. Frequent daily use, an unbalanced door, or worn springs can shorten that, while yearly service and a well-balanced door help a motor reach the upper end.

  • Which is quieter, a belt-drive or chain-drive opener?

Belt-drive openers are quieter. A rubber belt moves smoothly with little vibration, while a metal chain clatters against the rail. Chain drives still make sense for detached garages where noise does not reach living space.

  • What is a wall-mount garage door opener?

Also called a jackshaft opener, a wall-mount opener mounts beside the door and turns the torsion bar directly instead of pulling from the ceiling. It frees overhead space and suits garages with high or obstructed ceilings.

  • Can I control my garage door from my phone?

Yes. At Welcome Home Garage Doors, we install LiftMaster openers with the myQ app and Genie openers with Aladdin Connect throughout Cincinnati, OH. Both let you open, close, and monitor the door from anywhere with a connection.

  • Does a garage door opener work when the power is out?

Standard openers stop without power, but battery-backup models keep running through an outage. Otherwise, pull the red emergency release and lift the door by hand, as long as the springs are intact and the door is balanced.

  • What horsepower garage door opener do I need?

As general guidance for homes in Cincinnati, OH, 1/2 HP suits most single doors, while 3/4 HP handles heavier, double, or wood doors. At Welcome Home Garage Doors, we check your door's weight and balance before recommending one.

  • Are garage door openers with cameras worth it?

They can be, especially for busy households and frequent deliveries. A built-in camera shows the garage live on your phone, so you can confirm the door closed, see who entered, and watch packages land safely inside.

  • Do new garage door openers work with old remotes?

Often not. Remotes are usually tied to a brand and its radio technology, so older units may not pair with a new motor. That is one reason every opener we install comes with new remotes and a keypad.

HOW WE WORK

FROM OLD MOTOR TO APP ALERT, HERE IS HOW.

STEP 01

Check the Door First

Our visit starts with the door, not the motor. We test balance, look over springs, cables, and rollers, and confirm the door moves freely by hand, because a new opener cannot fix a door fighting its own weight.

STEP 02

Choose Your Drive and Features

With the door checked, we walk through belt, chain, and wall-mount options, along with cameras, battery backup, and app control. Your estimate costs nothing, and we recommend only what your garage and routine call for.

STEP 03

Take Down the Old Unit

Install day begins as we disconnect and remove the old opener, rail, and brackets, then carefully inspect the mounting points in the ceiling or wall so the new unit hangs solid, level, and quiet.

STEP 04

Mount and Wire the New Opener

Rails, brackets, and the motor go up next, followed by photo eyes set no higher than 6 inches off the floor and a wall button placed where everyone in the house can reach it easily.

STEP 05

Program and Connect

Both remotes and the keypad get programmed on the spot. We then link the opener to your Wi-Fi, set up the myQ or Aladdin Connect app, and send a test alert straight to your phone.

STEP 06

Test and Walk You Through

Last, we set travel limits and force, run the auto-reverse test with a 2x4 under the door, and show you every control, from the manual release to the app notifications you will now receive.
